Founder of his own M-Plant label and one of the long-standing artists on our Tresor Records label, techno meister Robert Hood is an innovator who makes minimal Detroit techno with an emphasis on soul and experimentation over flash and popularity. Robert Hood was a founding member, along with Jeff Mills and Mike Banks, of the legendary Underground Resistance label, whose influential releases throughout the early and mid ’90s helped change the face of modern Detroit techno and sparked a creative renaissance. Infusing elements of acid and industrial into a potent blend of Chicago house and Detroit techno, UR’s aesthetic project and militant business philosophy were (and remain) singular commitments in underground techno. We give a warm welcome to Robert Hood back in our home. Returning to Tresor since his appearance on the decks last fall, Giuseppe Maffei alias Z.I.P.P.O is an Italian DJ who prefers to use a variety of sounds and styles to create his own unique brand of sampling. With several solo releases and innovative collaborations, Z.I.P.P.O also worked in a project along with a Detroit underground legend Fanon Flower. The result was named ‘EP SAV_002’ produced by the label Suburban Avenue. Together with his solo EPs and collaborations on the Fides label, this was also very significant for the creation of the 3KZ project founded with his friend Kaelan inspired by a retro-futuristic sound similar to Detroit techno. Tresor resident Mario Berger accents this riveting techno night. Mario’s sets are a blend of major influences of artists like James Ruskin, Surgeon, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood or Luke Slater and labels like Underground Resistance, Downwards, Basic Channel and Tresor Records. Mario is also one of the curators of the Tresor New Faces nights. With Alex Kowalski, mostly under his d_func moniker, Mario is having an ongoing studio collaboration which has been resulting in releases and remixes on different labels, such as Torque, Paranoid Dancer, Damage Music and others. In Globus: Impulsive and intuitive hardware house & techno from Vancouver, Minimal Violence is a collaboration between A. Luk and Lida P. The duo has a string of releases to date with labels such as Lobster Theremin, 1080p and Jungle Gym Records. They also make up two parts of Sacred Sound Club, an artist collective, label and event series focused on shifting the narrative of the Vancouver music scene towards its heavier more experimental community, intrinsically linked to the punk roots of the city’s underground club culture. Minimal Violence’s penchant for the heavier and more aggressive side of dance music is most evident in its infiltration of the duo’s often raw and disorientating live set. Drawing on Luk’s years of experience playing in punk bands, they combine hardware sequencers, drum machines and synths, to weave together acid tinged compositions that derive inspiration from early electronic and minimal synth through to heavier UK rave and hardcore. Ori Itshaki & Doron “Charly” Mastey are TV.OUT, from Tel-Aviv, co-founders and run their leftfield techno oriented Parallax Records with Yogg & Pharaoh. Charly is also a co-founder of a club in Tel-Aviv called ‘Alphabet’. Their sound has changed quite a lot through the years, from new wave to house to electro and much more. They have also released on L.I.E.S. as well as on Fuck Reality from Hamburg’s Smallpeople crew. Expect to hear more from this talented duo. Dario Scarano is Kuno, DJ, producer and co-founder of Terminal Operations, and has further releases on Berceuse Heroique and Tar Hallow. He got into DJing at the age of sixteen and started producing music himself at the very young age of 18. His mixing style ranges from Murdercapital/Viewlexx/Bunker style electro and acid to grime, dubstep and early UK bass music. Be prepared for a set of thick beats, wicked swelling basslines and a phat hit of rugged turntablism. Oh, and watch out for Kuno’s forthcoming release on 777 Recordings.
