New Release: Philip Bader & Re.You - Shades Of White EP, incl. Matthias Tanzmann Remix (MHD007)
Germanys Philip Bader is a well-travelled techno producer with releases on esteemed labels like Highgrade, Saved, and now Moon Harbour. Here he serves up three brand new deep cuts that get backed with a remix from the boss himself, Matthias Tanzmann.The opening track Super Bell is produced alongside Marius Maier, better known simply as Re.You, and over the course of 7 minutes lowers you into an ever silkier groove with fluttering snares and dusty hi hats softening the edges of the beats. Colourful xylophone like melodies rain down between a dark, heavily treated voice but the rolling up-down undulation of the bass never ceases.
For his remix, Matthias Tanzmann injects more percussive energy, with snares and rolls panning left and right to bring even more movement to the groove. The melodic blobs are removed yet the voices remain; its a deft retouch that cannot fail to sweep you up.
Rabbit Noise has more buffed metallic percussion and real sound snares scattered over a plump kick drum that pumps away invitingly as eerie melodies unfold up top. They snake and weave, pulling you in this direction then that until eventually claps join the mix and add extra bite to the beats. The icing on the cake is the breakout of a female wail toward the end, something that really makes the trip peak just when you need it to.
Way to Mexico is the least shadowy and sulky of the lot, rubbery kicks roll beneath a cloud of voices, yelps and yeahs and feathery percussion litters the airwaves. They make for an outdoor, carnival-sounding track that has your thoughts turning to the summer and some outdoor terrace in mid afternoon. These tracks are subtle and slow to unfold, the results, though, are never anything less than hypnotic.
